Flaming Beverages

The category of flaming beverages among the cocktails is known to be made by blending drinks that tend to contain minimal amount of alcohol that’s flammable and high proof at the same time. These types of alcohols are known to be ignited before they are consumed and the flames generally don’t bring about any change in the flavor of the drink. Generally the flaming beverages also known as the flaming cocktails are known to be splendid in surroundings of dim light as then the flames are comparatively visible and seem decorative in nature. The ones drinking flaming cocktails must be aware of the fact that the container may remain hot for some time even after the flames get extinguished and mishandling may result to burns.

Among the flaming beverages Backdraft is known to be a cocktail which requires a saucer, a shot glass which is placed in the middle of the saucer and is filled with Sambuca and a pint glass which is full of 2 shots of Cointreau which needs to be swirled in the glass in order to coat the sides. Finally the Cointreau is lit up and is allowed to burn till the glass’s sides get warmer and then the lit Contreau is poured in the shot glass which ignites the Sambuca. Cinnamon or black pepper is then lastly sprinkled in the alcohol which is in a flaming form then from around 1 ft above the shot glass and the Cinnamon spice is sure to ignite in the flame. After adding 6 shakes of cinnamon the pint glass needs to be lowered on the flaming liquid. The pint glass will try to suck the alcohol on the outside into the upside down pint glass as the alcohol cools and thus the drink derives its name of backdraft drink. The pint glass after it’s removed has 3 ice cubes added to it and the bartender immediately covers the mouth of the pint glass with his palm.

B-52 cocktail also known as the B52 or Bifi is known to be a type of layered cocktail shooter that comprises of coffee liquor, Bailey’s Irish Cream and Grand Mariner. If this drink is made properly then one also gets to see the ingredients that are separated into 3 different layers which are clearly visible. In fact there are special machines that prepare a B52 also known as multi layered cocktails in just a few seconds. These types of cocktails are also known as Pousse Café and the method of preparation is known as Building as there is no action of blending or shaking involved. B52 is mostly known to be served in shooter or sherry glass. Firstly coffee liquor like those of Tia Maria better known as Kahlua should be poured in the glass and following this the Bailey’s Irish Cream is poured slowly and one should take care not to disturb the lower layer while pouring the second layer of liquor and lastly pour the Grand Mariner on top of the ice cream using the same bar spoon used to pour ice cream.

In order to enjoy a flaming B52 you can use dark rum which is overproof instead of Grand Mariner and the rum proof should be anywhere between 120 to 160 proof. After igniting the drink by the bartender the drink should be consumed immediately by the drinker by a straw which is advisably a fireproof one.
